Photographer, Helena Price Photography / The Techies Project
Raised in a small town in North Carolina, Helena Price has been making photos since she was 6 years old, getting her start shooting with disposable cameras from Walmart. Now a commercial, editorial and portrait photographer based in San Francisco, she is most recently known for creating the Techies Project, a large-scale photo project documenting the stories of underrepresented tech employees in Silicon Valley. Price calls herself “a recovering ex-techie”—at 25, she ditched her prospering Silicon Valley career heading comms at Skillshare to make photos full-time. Within two years, she was named “Silicon Valley’s Most Wanted Photographer,” working on projects with Facebook, Fitbit, Google, Microsoft, Nike, Pinterest, Twitter, Uber, Square and more. She no longer shoots with disposable cameras.
